Remove two hex nuts (1), lockwashers (2) and
fuel pump (3) from gear cover.
3.
Remove shims (4) and gaskets (5), and set
aside for reference/reinstallation.
4.
Remove setscrew (6) and lockwasher (7) from
inside the oil filler opening.
5.
Remove the roller tappet (8).
6.
Remove studs (9) only if replacement is re-
quired.
CLEANING
W A R N I N G
P-D-680,Type III, is moderaetly toxic to
the skin, eyes and respiratory tract;
avoid prolonged exposure. Skin and
eye protection is required. Good ventila-
tion is required. Do not use near open
flame or excessive heat. Flash point is
200° F (93.3° C)
1.
Clean exterior of fuel pump with rag dampened in
dry cleaning solvent and dry thoroughly.
2.
Clean all other parts in dry cleaning solvent and
dry thoroughly.
3.
Ensure that all gasket material removed from
mating surfaces.
INSPECTION
1.
Inspect roller tappet for signs of excessive wear,
or scoring along outside diameter. Replace roller
tappet that is damaged in any way.
2.
Inspection of fuel pump consists of examining the
pump for signs of wear, and other signs of exter-
nal damage. Replace a worn of otherwise exter-
nally damaged fuel pump.

Inspect threaded fasteners for stripped threads or
other damage. Replace damaged fasteners.
INSTALLATION

Install studs (9). if they were removed

If reinstalling the pump assembly (3) and roller
tappet that was removed from the engine. pro-
ceed as follows:
a
Install roller tappet in bore of gear cover,
aligning the slot in side of tappet with hole for
setscrew (6) in the oil filler passage.
b.
Install setscrew (6) and lockwasher (7), ensur-
ing that pilot on end of setscrew (6) seats into
groove of roller tappet (8) and that tappet
moves freely on Its axis for length of slot.
c.
Install new gasket (5), with shims (4) that
were removed onto the studs (9).
NOTE
If a combination of steel and plastic
shims (4) are used, always place the steel
shim between the plastic shim(s) and the
gasket (5)
