Crankshaft removed.
General Safety Instructions
Observe all WARNINGS and CAUTIONS
1.
Repair of the crankshaft consists of the replace-
ment of the rear main bearing (3) and the crank-
shaft gear (5).
2.
Replace the rear main bearing (3) as follows:
a.
Using snap ring plier, remove the retaining
ring (1) from the seal housing (2).
b.
Using arbor press and a 54 mm diameter
pressing rod press the outer race of rear
main bearing (3) from the seal housing (2).
c.
Using bearing separator from puller kit, pull
the inner race of rear main bearing (3) from
the crankshaft (4).
WARNING
P-D-680, Type Ill, Is moderately toxic to
the skin, eyes and respiratory tract;
avoid prolonged exposure. Skin and
eye protection is required. Good ventila-
tion is required. Do not use near open
flame or excessive heat. Flash point is
200° F (93.3 C).
d.
Clean crankshaft (4) in dry cleaning solvent
and dry thoroughly.
e.
Using arbor press and 78 mm diameter press-
ing rod press the outer race of bearing (3)
into seal housing (2), seating fully against the
shoulder.
f.
Use snap ring plier to install retaining ring (1)
in groove of seal housing (2).
g.
Heat inner race of bearing (3) on a hot plate,
or equivalent, to a temperature of 195 -
21°F (90 - 100°C).
