Section IV. OPERATION UNDER UNUSUAL CONDITIONS
2-8. OPERATION IN EXTREME HUMID CONDI-
TIONS
WARNING
Do not allow any person to operate the
vibrating tamper for more than two
hours per day. Failure to follow these in-
structions may result in injury from vi-
bration exposure.
a.
While possible, operation in the rain is not recom-
mended. The material being compacted is not
generally suited for compaction efforts when wet.
b.
If unit must be operated during the rain, take the
following precautions:
(1) When refueling, take measures to prevent
rain from entering the fuel tank.
(2) Check air cleaner element more frequently as
humid air will tend to clog element more rap-
idly, restricting combustion air to engine.
2-9. OPERATION IN EXTREME COLD
WARNING
Do not allow any person to operate the
vibrating tamper for more than two
hours per day. Failure to follow these in-
structions may result in injury from vi-
bration exposure.
a.
Ensure that fuel is of a grade suitable for extreme
cold weather operation.
b.
For continued operation below 32° F (0° C),
change engine oil (See Para. 4-12).
c.
Before starting the engine, perform the following:
(1) Turn the decompression knob (1) from the op-
erating position (2) to the neutral position (3).
(2) Crank the engine with the crank handle (5)
for 10 to 20 turns, until the engine rotates
freely. This will ensure engine bearings are Iu-
bricated.
