4-18. THROTTLE CONTROL AND CABLE MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS - Continued
3.
Tension on the throttle control (15) may be in-
creased by tightening the center pivot locknut. If
this does not provide enough friction to hold the
control in a constant positron, replace the control.
4.
Inspect threaded fasteners for stripped threads.
5.
Replace any part found defective.
1.
Install the connector assembly (16) to the throttle
control (15) and tighten the jam nut securely.
2.
Loosen the two setscrews (17) near base of han-
dle on throttle control (15).
NOTE
The cable assembly (3) has two different
end caps on the casing. The end with the
longer stem is to be Installed at the engine
throttle lever (18).
3.
Pivot the throttle control (15) handle clockwise as
far as it will go. Measure a length of the flexible
wire from the control cable that will reach from
the end of the connector assembly (16) into the
throttle control (15) and extend approximately 1/2
in. (13 mm ) beyond the two setscrews (17) at
base of the control handle.
4.
Grasp the flexible wire just beyond that measured
length, and insert the wire through the connector
assembly (16) and into the throttle control until
your fingers contact the end of the connector as-
sembly.
5.
Secure the flexible wire by tightening the two set-
screws (17) securely.
6.
Install the throttle control (15) onto the guide bar,
securing with two capscrews (13), flat washers
(14), lockwashers (12), and hex nuts (11).
Tighten fasteners securely.
7.
Install clamp (10) around control cable (3) and se-
cure to guide bar with capscrew (7), lockwasher
(9), and hex nut (8). Before tightening the fasten-
ers, push the control cable casing up tight against
the connector assembly (16). The stem of casing
end cap should enter the connector assembly.

12.
Secure casing by tightening the capscrew (7) se-
curely.
Install clamp (6) around control cable (3) and se-
cure to stud at air cleaner with flat washer (5) and
locknut (4). Ensure that sufficient length of the
control cable extends beyond the clamp to make
a smooth arch before cable end enters the
bracket (19) on side of engine.
Feed flexible wire end of control cable assembly
(3) through the engine bracket (19) and seat the
stem of casing cap in hole of bracket.
Secure cable assembly (3) to bracket by install-
ing a new triangle lock ring (2), fitting the ring
tight against the bottom of the bracket.
Insert stem of the stop bolt (1) through the engine
throttle lever and feed flexible wire through hole
in stop bolt.
Adjust the throttle control cable.
1 .
Pivot the throttle control (15) handle to the engine
stop position (fully clockwise) until mechanical
stop is encountered.
2 .
Manually place the engine throttle lever (18) in
the engine stop (fully down) position.
3.
Tighten the screw of the stop bolt (1). locking
onto the flexible wire of the control cable assem-
bly (3).
NOTE
Follow-on tasks include: Return compactor
to service.
