5-22. ENGINE BASE MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
This task includes:
a. Replace

Equipment Condition
Compactor set on level ground in a protected area.
Materials/Parts
Solvent, Dry Cleaning; item 9, Appx E
Engine removed.
Guide bar removed, including rubber buffer.
Base plate removed.
NOTE
The engine base IS very sturdy and should
outlast all other components of the plate
compactor.

An edge protector (1), can be replaced without re-
moval of the engine base. The replacement edge
protector comes with self-adhesive coating for ad-
hesion to the base plate.
NOTE
The edge protector (1) provides protection
for the guide bar finish, when guide bar is
used to raise the rear of the compactor off
the ground to place the transport dolly in
transport positron.
2.
Removal of the engine base (2) consists of the re-
moval of all components mounted to it, refer to in-
dex if necessary for identification of paragraphs
for each components removal instructions.
3.
Install replacement engine base (2), mounting all
components removed from damaged base.
NOTE
Follow-on tasks include: Adjust the direc-
tion control cable (Para. 4-19), Adjust the
throttle cable (Para. 4-16), Adjust the v-
belt (Para. 4-25).
