5-23. VIBRATOR MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS - Continued
2.
Ensure that all gasket material is removed from
mating surfaces of the bearing covers (12 and
13), cover (22) and housing (50).
INSPECTION
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
Inspect shafts (42 and 49) for signs of burning at
surfaces where bearings fit.
Inspect shaft (49) at surface for seal ring (14) for
signs of wear.
Inspect keys (9, 29 and 48) for sign of distortion
or shearing.
Inspect pulley (8) for wear in v-belt groove as indi-
cated by ridging on tapered surfaces of groove.
Inspect threads of tapped holes in cover (22) and
housing (50) for stripped condition
Inspect all threaded fasteners for stripped
threads.
REPAIR
1.
Repair of the vibrator assembly consists of re-
placement of any part(s) found damaged in any
way.
2.
Install all new gaskets, seals and bearings.
ASSEMBLY
1.
Coat all parts with clean lubricating oil prior to as-
sembly.

When handling roller bearings (25, 26
and 43), keep the bearing cups and the
cone and rollers together in the same
sets as received. Premature failure may
result if sets are mixed.
2.
Using an arbor press with a 2.76 inch (70 mm)
0.D. pressing sleeve, install bearing cups as fol-
lows:
NOTE
Install all bearing cups so the wide face is
facing the outside of the cover (22) or
housing (50). The 70mm O.D. press
sleeve is double ended with the two recess
values built in.
a.
Press cup of bearing (26) into the proper bore
of housing (50) so that the cup is recessed
0.079 inch (2 mm) from the outer surface of
the housing (50).
b.
Press cups of bearings (25 and 43) into the
proper bores of housing (50) and cover (22)
so that the cup is recessed 0.157 inch (4 mm)
from the outer surface of the housing and
cover.
3.
Assemble the fixed shaft (49) assembly as fol-
lows:
a.
b.
c.
d.
Using snap ring plier, install one retaining
ring (44) in groove of shaft (49) nearest to the
stepped down shoulder for pulley (8).
Install key (48) in key slot of shaft (49) and
slide weight (47), spacer (46) and spur
gear (45) onto the shaft, engaging the key
(48) in key slot of the parts and firmly against
the installed retaining ring (44).
Using snap ring plier, install the second retain-
ing ring (44) in the exposed groove on
shaft (49) next to the spur gear (45).
Using an arbor press with a 1.25 inch (32
mm) inside diameter pressing sleeve, install
the cone and rollers of bearings (43) onto the
ends of shaft (49). Ensure that the large di-
ameter end of the cone and rollers is leading
onto the shaft. Seat the cone and rollers fully
against the shoulder of the shaft.
4.
Assemble the adjustable shaft (42) assembly as
follows:
a.
If ball bearings (39) were removed, support
the flange of the coupling disks (33) on block-
ing and using a hand arbor press with a 2.60
inch (66 mm) diameter pressing sleeve install
the ball bearings (39), one into each coupling
