5-23. VIBRATOR MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS - Continued
disk. Seat the bearings fully into the coupling
disks.
b.
Using snap ring plier, install one retaining
ring (41) onto shaft (42). Seat retaining ring in
groove between the key slot and opening for
the wedge (37).
c.
Install spacer (40) over end of shaft (42) and
seat against the installed retaining ring (41).
d.
Using an arbor press with a thin wall 1.65
inch (42 mm) inside diameter pressing
sleeve, install one assembled bearing (39)
and coupling disk (33), seating inner race of
bearing (39) against the installed spacer (40).
e.
Inset-t the large diameter end of shift bolt (38)
into end of shaft (42). Through opening in
side of shaft (42), install wedge (37) securing
to shift bolt with flat washer (36) and socket
head capscrew (35), which has been coated
on the threads with loctite. Tighten securely,
ensuring that shift bolt (38) rotates freely
within shaft (42).
f.
Support the shaft (42) in an arbor press with
the shift bolt (38) pointing up. Install the spur
gear (34) over the shaft and seat on installed
coupling disk (33) aligning the four bolt holes.
Observe the location of the cog of the in-
stalled coupling disk (33).
g.
Using an arbor press with a thin wall 1.65
inch (42 mm) inside diameter pressing
sleeve, install the second assembled bear-
ing (39) and coupling disk (33), seating the
coupling disk into spur gear (34). To ensure
proper shifting for forward and reverse travel,
the cog of this coupling disk must be 180° op-
posite of the cog observed in step e., above.
Align bolt holes of both coupling disks (33)
and spur gear (34), so that the cog of this cou-
pling disk is 180° opposite of the cog ob-
served in step e. above. Align bolt holes of
both coupling disks (33) and spur gear (34).
NOTE
ENSURE THAT THE TIMING MARKS ON
OUTSIDE SURFACE OF EACH COU-
PLING DISK (33) ARE 180° OPPOSED
TO EACH OTHER.

Secure with eight lockwashers (31) and four
capscrews (32) and hex nuts (30). Tighten
hex nuts securely.
Using snap ring plier, install retaining
ring (27) in groove of shaft (42) next to the
outer coupling disk (33).
Install key (29) into key slot of shaft (42) and
install weight (28) onto the shaft, engaging
the key and seating against the retaining
ring (41).
Using snap ring plier, install second retaining
ring (27) in groove next to weight (28).
Using an arbor press with a 1.25 inch (32
mm) inside diameter pressing sleeve, install
the cone and rollers of bearings (25 and 26)
onto the ends of shaft (42). Ensure that the
large diameter end of the cone and rollers is
leading onto the shaft. Seat the cone and roll-
ers fully against the shoulder of the shaft.
5.
If spring pins (24) were removed, install pins in
the two holes provided in housing (50).
6.
Position the housing (50) on blocking with the
open side facing up.
