Compactor set on level ground in a protected area.
Engine off.
Oil drained.

Remove the dipstick (Para. 4-16)
Removal of the gear cover may be re-
quired for a variety of reasons. In many
cases not all components mounted on or
in the gear cover will need to be removed
to accomplish a necessary repair or re-
placement. Determine removal needs by
the access required to replace a defective
part. The procedure below provides for
complete removal to replace the gear
cover itself.

Remove the crank handle guide assembly
(Para. 4-20).
5.
Remove the valve cover (Para. 4-33).
6.
Remove the rocker arm assemblies and push
rods (Para. 5-7).
7.
Remove the fuel injector pump (Para. 5-5).
1.
Disconnect the throttle control cable from the
throttle control lever and engine bracket
(Para. 4-18).
2.
Remove the oil filler cap (Para. 4-15).
8.
Remove the compression release (Para. 5-10).
