CLEANING

P-D-680, Type III, is moderately toxic to
the skin, eyes and respiratory tract;
avoid prolonged exposure. Skin and
eye protection is required. Good ventila-
tion is required. Do not use near open
flame or excessive heat. Flash point is
200°F (93.3° C).
1.
Clean all parts in dry cleaning solvent and dry
thoroughly.
INSPECTION
1.
Visually inspect the camshaft (2) for scoring on
bearing surfaces at both ends and on surfaces of
the three cam lobes. Replace a camshaft that is
scored in any way.
2.
Using vernier caliper, measure diameter of the
camshaft outside of the retaining ring groove. Re-
place camshaft if diameter is less than 1.368 in.

Using vernier caliper, measure diameter of the
camshaft outside the camshaft gear. Replace
camshaft if diameter is less than 0.860 in.

4.
Inspect teeth of the camshaft gear for scoring or
excessive wear. Smooth edges to teeth is accept-
able. If camshaft gear requires replacement, no
tify your supervisor.
INSTALLATION
1.
If shaft pin (5) was removed, install into bore in
camshaft (2) seating below surface on both sides.
2.
Install the ball bearing (3) into gear cover with ar-
bor press and a 60mm O.D. w/34 mm pilot press-
ing rod. Seat bearing fully to the base of the bore.

Apply light coat of lubricating oil to the preformed
packing (4) and install on camshaft (2), seating
fully against shoulder of camshaft.
Turn gear cover so inside of cover is up. Support
the gear cover and place a sleeve under the in-
ner race of the ball bearing (3).
Using arbor press, press the camshaft (2) into the
bearing (3), seating fully to the shoulder of cam-
shaft.
Install retaining ring (1) with snap ring plier.
Install the gear cover (Para. 5-14)
