5-16. GOVERNOR (SPEED) CONTROL SHAFT MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS - Continued
WARNING
Return spring (4) is under tension and
will recoil rapidly when released. Injury
to fingers may occur if fingers are in re-
coil path of spring.
12. Ensure that leg of return spring (4) is still en-
gaged in middle slot of control plate (11), hook
long leg of spring (4) on boss of gear cover and
continue to turn control lever (2) counterclock-
wise to 45° above horizontal. Push assembly in
fully, ensuring engagement of fuel lever pin on
fuel pump. Secure shaft with retaining spring (1)
when groove is fully visible inside the gear cover.
Check for return tension of governor control
arm (5).
13. Adjust the control plate (11) (Para. 4-32).
14. Install the gear cover (Para. 5-14).
15. Perform adjustment procedure above
NOTE
Follow-on tasks include: Service the en-
gine.
