Crank the engine until governor weights stand in
a vertical position.

Turn the speed control lever to the full load posi-
tion, fully counterclockwise and hold.

Straighten bent tab on locking tab and loosen the
castle nut.
5.
With screwdriver turn the adjusting screw counter-
clockwise until head is against the control arm.
6.
Insert screwdriver tip between the governor
weights and push to one side to open the weights
as far as they will go. Hold this position, while
turning the adjusting screw clockwise until the
screw head contacts the governor pin and no end
play of the governor pin is felt.
7.
Release the governor weights, and turn the ad-
justing screw in one half turn. While holding ad-
justing screw in this position, tighten the castle
nut and bend tab of locking tab to secure the ad-
justment.
N O T E
After tightening castle nut and locking with
tab, check for no end play of governor pin.
8.
Install the gasket (4) and cover plate (3), securing
with two copper washers (2) and capscrews (1).
Tighten the capscrews securely.
REMOVE
1.
Remove the gear covers (Para. 5-14).
2.
Lay the assembly gear cover down on suitable
blocking with the inside facing up.
3.
Remove the retaining spring (1).
W A R N I N G
Return spring (4) is under tension and
will recoil rapidly when released. Injury
to fingers may occur if fingers are in re-
coil path of spring.

Grasp the speed control lever (2), and pull out
slowly while turning clockwise to relieve tension
on spring (3) and unhook return spring (4) from
boss on gear cover Pull on speed control
lever (2) until shaft is clear of the gear cover
Remove governor arm (5) from inside gear cover.
Note position of inner return spring (3) in gover-
nor arm (5) to facilitate installation, and remove
the spring from governor arm.
Straighten tab on locking tab (6) and remove cas-
tle nut (7) and adjusting screw (8).
Remove nut (9). lockwasher (10), speed control
lever (2), control plate (1), and outer return
spring (4) from the shaft (12).
Remove preformed packing (13) from speed con-
trol shaft (12). Discard preformed packing.
If necessary for replacement of outer speed con-
trol lever (14) remove hex nut (15), lock-
washer (16) and capscrew (17).
If necessary for replacement of bracket (18), re-
move nut (19), lockwasher (20) and cap-
screw (21).
Do not remove the shouldered bolt (22) unless
bolt can not be-tightened if loose.
