Equipment Condition
Compactor set on level ground in a protected area.
Engine off.
Valve cover removed.
General Safety instructions
Observe all WARNINGS and CAUTIONS
R E M O V E
1.
Remove two hex nuts, flat washers and the valve
cover, if not already removed.
2.
Using a drift punch, drive out the rocker arm shaft
and remove the two rocker arm assemblies.
3.
Remove push rods from engine.
CLEANING
W A R N I N G
P-D-680, Type Ill, is moderately toxic to
the skin, eyes and respiratory tract;
avoid prolonged exposure. Skin and
eye protection is required. Good ventila-
tion is required. Do not use near open
flame or excessive heat. Flash point is
200° F (93.3° C).
1.
Clean all parts in dry cleaning solvent and dry
thoroughly.
INSPECTION
1.
Check bore of rocker arms for wear with vernier
caliper. Maximum wear of the bore diameter is
0.475 in. (12.060 mm)
2.
Check diameter of rocker arm shaft at wearing
surfaces of the rocker arms with vernier caliper.
Maximum wear of the shaft diameter is 0.471 in.
(11.962 mm)
3.
Inspect rocker arms for cracks or scoring of the
bore surfaces.
4.
Inspect shaft for scoring or other damage.
5.
Inspect adjusting screws and nuts for damage.
6.
Inspect push rods for straightness or other dam-
age.
