5-6. PRIMER ASSEMBLY MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Primer Assembly (1)
Equipment Condition
Compactor set on level ground in a protected area
Engine off.
Gear cover removed.
General Safety Instructions
Observe all WARNINGS and CAUTlONS
REPLACE
NOTE
The primer assembly should only be re-
moved if there is reason to believe that the
assembly or a component is defective, re-
quiring replacement of the assembly The
primer assembly is destroyed in the re-
moval process and can not be repaired.
1.
Pull the primer handle fully down and hold, ob-
serving that the spring is compressed solid.
2.
Measure the distance A with vernier calilper,
and record this value.
W A R N I N G
The plunger cone is under spring ten-
sion during this removal and could be-
come a projectile when sawing is
complete. Eye protection is required. In-
jury could occur if plunger should let
go unexpectedly.
3.
Holding the handle down, cut through the plunger
stem between the handle and gear cover.
4.
Remove all components of the plunger assembly
and discard
5.
Install spring (1) and flat washer (2) on stem of
plunger (5).
6.
Apply lubricating oil to the preformed packings (3
and 4) of the primer assembly.
7.
Install larger preformed packing (3) on stem of
plunger (5) and push beyond the groove in stem.
8.
Install small preformed packing (4) in groove of
the plunger (5) stem.
