ADJUST
NOTE
Adjustment of the fuel pump is required
when a new gear housing is installed, or
the camshaft/camshaft gear has been re-
placed.
1.
Remove the v-belt cover (Para. 4-24).
2.
Slowly crank the engine in rotation direction until
the top dead center (TDC) mark on the flywheel
is approximately at the 5 oclock position.
3.
Provide a wash pan for fuel spilled from the fuel
pump and clamp fuel line.
4.
Remove the allen head screw (1) and gasket (2)
from face of fuel pump (3) and install a drip tube.
NOTE
Fuel will flow from the fuel pump (3) as the
screw (1) is loosened.
5.
Set the throttle control lever to full load and en-
sure that the primer is not set.
6.
Slowly crank the engine in rotation direction and
observe the drip tube. First the fuel flows free,
then drips, stops and starts to drip again. The fuel
delivery cut-off point is reached when approxi-
mately 1 drop per second flows out of the drip
tube. Stop cranking the engine at this point.
7.
Using a flexible rule, measure the distance be-
tween the TDC marks on the flywheel and the en-
gine housing. The fuel pump is correctly timed
when the distance measured is 0.827 ± 0.079 in.
(21 ±2 mm).
