MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
3. ENGINE LACKS POWER AND/OR SMOKES BLACK
NOTE
Operation at high altitudes or in cold ambient temperatures may
cause this malfunction.
Step 7. Check for missing or too many gaskets installed under fuel injector.
Remove fuel Injector and install proper number of gaskets. (Para. 5-4)
Step 2. Check for faulty fuel injector.
Remove, test and or replace fuel injector (Para. 5-4).
Step 3. Check fuel pump for improper adjustment or defective condition.
Adjust, repair or replace the fuel pump (Para. 5-5).
Step 4. Check adjustment of injection timing.
Adjust Injection timing (Para. 5-5).
Step 5. Check for low oil pressure caused by dirt in pressure relief valve of oil pump.
Remove oil pump, clean and reinstall pump or replace pump (Para. 5-18).
Step 6. Check for defective oil pump.
Replace oil pump (Para. 5-18).
Step 7. Check for excessive carbon on piston and cylinder head.
Remove and clean carbon from piston and cylinder head (Para. 5-8 and 5-12).
Step 8. Check for defective piston rings.
Replace the piston rings (Para. 5-12).
Step 9. Check for worn cylinder and or piston.
Replace cylinder and piston assembly (Para. 5-11 and 5-12).
Step 10. Check for worn bearings.
Replace bearings on crankshaft (Para. 5-20).
4. ENGINE LACKS POWER AND/OR SMOKES BLUE
Step 1. Engine breather valve clogged.
Replace the breather valve (Para. 5-8).
Step 2. Check for defective oil seal at intake valve.
Replace the oil seal (Para. 5-9).
Step 3. Check for worn valves and/or valve guides.
Replace valves and valve guides (Para. 5-9).
