INSPECTION

inspect pump gear by rotating the gear by hand,
observing for broken teeth or excessive wear on
the teeth. Binding may be observed at the same
time. Replace a pump (4) that is binding or exhib-
its worn or broken teeth.

inspect threaded fasteners (1 and 2) for stripped

Secure pump with two capscrews (2), one cap-
screw (1) and three lockwashers (3).
Using torque wrench, tighten capscrews (1
and 2) to 8.7 - 10.9 ft-lbs (12 - 15 Nm), pulling the
pump (4) down as the capscrews are tightened to
allow sufficient backlash between crankshaft gear
and the pump gear.
Install the gear cover (Para. 5-14).
NOTE
INSTALLATION
Follow-on tasks include: Service the en-
gine.
1.
Dip oil pump in lubricating oil. Affix new gas-
ket (5) to pump assembly (4) and install on the
engine housing.
