4-32. GOVERNOR CONTROL PLATE MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS - Continued
1. Disconnect the throttle control cable from the con-
trol level (3), (Para. 4-18).
It is important to hold the control levels
(3 and 4) in a fixed position while apply-
ing torque to the hex nut (1). Damage to
internal components of the speed con-
trol shaft mechanism may occur other-
wise.
2. Remove hex nut (1) and lockwasher (2), and re-
move the assembled control levels (3 and 4).
Control plate (5) is under tension of a
torsion spring (6), and may cause the
control plate to be ejected unexpect-
edly. Personal injury may result.
3. Using a needle nosed plier, grasp the end of the
torsion spring and unhook it from the boss on the
gear cover.
4. Note which notch on edge of control plate (5) en-
gages the end of torsion spring (6).
5. Remove control plate (5) and torsion spring (6).
6. Remove hex nut (7), lockwasher (8), capscrew
(9) and separate the control levels (3 and 4).
7. Replace any parts found damaged.
8. Turn threaded end of governor speed control
shaft so pin (10) is at the 12 o'clock position.
9. Install spring (6) to the control plate (5), engaging
short leg of spring in the notch #1, as shown.
It is important to hold the control levels
(3 and 4) in a fixed position while apply-
ing torque to the hex nut (1). Damage to
4-62
internal components of the speed con-
trol shaft mechanism may occur other-
w i s e .
10. Install assembled spring (6) and control plate (5)
over the end of the speed control shaft so that pin
(10) extends through enlarged hole of control
plate. Install control lever (4), engaging small
hole over the pin (10) and holding firmly while in-
stalling control lever (3) over the threaded end of
speed control shaft. Secure with lockwasher (2)
and hex nut (1).
11. Aligning control levers (3 and 4) and secure with cap-
screw (9), lockwasher (8) and hex nut (7).
Tighten nut (7) securely.
12. Make a loop in a piece of fine wire and loop
around long leg of spring (6). Torsion the spring
clockwise by pulling on, looped wire until able to
hook end of spring onto boss on the gear cover.
Remove the looped wire.
13. Using needle-nosed pliers, move the short leg of
spring (6), engaging notch noted in step 4, above
14. Adjust the control plate as described above.
15. Reconnect the throttle control shaft (Para 4-18)
NOTE
Follow-on tasks include: Adjust the throttle
control shaft (Para. 4-18).
