4-22. GUIDE BAR MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Equipment Condition
Compactor set on level ground.
Engine off.
Throttle control and cable removed.
Shift control and cable removed.

Grasp hand grips (1) and remove with a twisting
motion.
Using a vice grip, unthread the handles (2) from
stud of rubber buffers (5).
Remove hex nuts (3), lockwashers (4) and rub-
ber buffers from guide bar (6).
Remove hex nut (7), lockwasher (8), flat washer
(9) and stop buffer (10) from crank holder (15) on
guide bar (6).
Remove two capscrews (11), hex nuts (12), lock-
washers (13) and four flat washers (14) to re-
move the crank holder (15).
Remove one of the hex nuts (16), lockwasher
(17), and spring latch (18) from bracket on engine
base.
Support the guide bar (6), and remove two hex
nuts (19), lockwashers (20), socket head cap-
screws (21) and shock mount (22) from one side
of the guide bar.
Remove the guide bar (6) from the other shock
mount (22).

Remove two hex nuts (19), lockwashers (20),
socket head capscrews (21) and the second
shock mount (22) from engine base plate.
Remove and discard the flanged bushings (23).
Remove the hex nut (24), lockwasher (25) and
stop buffer (26) from engine base.
W A R N I N G
P-D-680, Type III, is moderately toxic to
the skin, eyes and respiratory tract;
avoid prolonged exposure. Skin and
eye protection Is required. Good ventila-
tion is required. Do not use near open
flame or excessive heat. Flash point is
200° F (93.3° C).

Clean the exterior of hand grips (1), buffers (5,
10, and 26), spring latch (18), and shock mounts
(22) with a rag dampened with dry cleaning sol-
vent and dry thoroughly.

Clean all other parts in dry cleaning solvent and
dry thoroughly.
